The Regenerative Grid Simulators and Regenerative Electronic Loads offer complementary solutions for simulating bi-directional power flows used in real-world conditions.

Testing Solar PV/Grid-Tied Inverters Using Grid Simulation

Since PV inverters generate AC power, the AC Power Source used to simulate the AC grid must be able to absorb this power and return it to the grid.  Grid-tied technologies often require grid-tied AC/DC inverters using modern switch mode PWM technology to achieve maximum conversion efficiency. Pacific Power Source’s state of the art, fully programmable AC Power Sources are used to simulate a wide array of AC anomalies. Large scale industrial grid-tied PV inverters generate power ranging from 12KW up several hundreds of KW and require extensive type testing to be certified for grid-tied operation under all kinds of adverse line conditions.

Testing Energy Storage Systems and V2G, V2L, and V2X

There is increasing research and development in V2G, V2L, and V2X to use energy storage capacity to support the utility grid. V2X allows the utility grid to use the EV’s battery during high peaks of energy consumption. Our AC Loads and Grid Simulators are ideal for testing sophisticated loading profiles and use cases as they allow for bi-direction power flow.

Our 2-in-1 Regenerative Grid Simulators are used to simulate the utility grid and the optional AC/DC load capability can be used to simulate any inductive, capacitive or resistive load.
