The Regenerative Load Simulator – RLS Series is compact with high-power density, providing 6kVA/kW up to 21kVA/kW in a 4U chassis. Parallel up to 168kVA/kW in a single 19” cabinet or dual cabinets up to 252kVA/kW. Regenerative power is greater than 90% energy efficiency with sink and source capabilities returning energy back to the facility or grid.
The Regenerative Load Simulator RLS Series simulates almost any AC and DC load waveforms.
Test applications: Utility grid, microgrid, EV chargers, EVSE, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), Solar PV/grid-tied inverters, home energy storage systems, UPS, PDUs, AC power sources, DC power supplies, and more.
Accurately simulate AC/DC loads with seamless transition of voltage ranges. A single constant power voltage range for both higher current at lower voltage and higher voltages at lower currents eliminating the need to switch between voltage ranges. This prevents potential disruptions in output power.
The Regenerative Load Simulator – RLS Series provides a broader range of current eliminating the risk of over or under sizing the power source. This reduces the need for additional capital investment. The diagram to the right illustrates the RLS capability to provide 20% more current from 120V to 200V when compared to a typical load that maxes out at 35A/phase.
Simultaneous AC and DC load operation of modes per phase(or channel), and the automatic switching of input modes provides test engineers with a unique capability and the highest degree of flexibility. AC, DC input configurations are available in single, split, three phase and multi-channels with optional isolated neutrals in AC and DC.
Full galvanic isolation from facility AC input to load input and between input phases/channels also protects the user and the UUT.
The Regenerative Load Simulator – RLS Series has a built-in waveform digitizer and scope with fast transient capabilities at 200us time resolution supporting LIST, PULSE and STEP modes. Waveform generation includes ten Standard, Sine, Square, Triangle, Clipped and Harmonics (inter-harmonics option) generation.
Regenerative AC/DC Electronic Load capability with both AC and DC operating modes pushes the boundaries of your test environment. Simulate linear and non-linear loads (including rectified), inductive and capacitive loads.

The programmable AC or DC electronic load has 4-Quadrant capability so both true and apparent power can be drawn with programmable control over power factor, current crest factor, current waveshape etc.
Instead of dissipating the energy received from the unit under test, the RLS load returns up to 90% of the absorbed energy back to the grid.
Create and execute transients that occur over a specified time segment or number of cycles to modify the output waveform, voltage, and frequency for any or all phases. An output trigger is provided for synchronizing external test equipment to the actual transient event.
The RLS Series controller offers both manual and full programmable control.
Provides exceptional accuracy of the AC or DC output Voltage. When enabled, accuracy improves to ±0.02% referenced to the power source internal voltmeter.
Up to 200 different waveforms can be stored in the waveform library for execution as part of a steady state program or for substitution in any output phase as part of a transient test program. Memory location #1 is a non-editable high resolution sine wave. Locations 2 and higher are editable and can be substituted in any output phase. Store unlimited number of waveforms on the computer using the SmartSource Suite web browser interface.
With the ability to provide single, split and three-phase outputs, the RLS Series is the perfect choice to provide 1 Phase to 2 or 3 Phase or 3 Phase to 1 Phase conversion.
Full galvanic isolation protects the user and UUT. Enhanced protection modes are includes programmable limit protection modes for real power, apparent power, over voltage and over temperature.
