IRVINE, Calif. – Apr. 18, 2017 – Pacific Power Source, a world leader in high-performance AC power sources and power conversion equipment, just released the largest member of its growing AFX Series programmable AC, DC and AC+DC power source family.
The new 3900AFX model expands available output power to 90 kVA in AC mode and 90 kW in DC mode. Lower power AFX Series models remain available, ranging from 6 kVA to 75 kVA. All models are based on a proprietary, all-digital, power conversion technology platform that supports a set of formerly unavailable features and capabilities used in programmable power sources. These include a direct-coupled output that allows for AC output, DC output or AC+DC combined output modes.
The 3900AFX features active power corrected AC inputs with a wide input voltage range that can be deployed anywhere in the world. Voltage, waveform, current, power, phase and frequency are all programmable with 99 non-volatile setups that can be stored for quick recall as part of a test protocol to reduce remote control overhead.
Other features and capabilities include a 15 Hz to 1200 Hz frequency range, single 312 VRMS Line to Neutral or 540V Line to Line constant power mode voltage range, programmable RMS or DC and peak current limit functions, and compatibility with the Pacific Power PPSC Manager Windows control software. These capabilities are easily controlled by the user through an intuitive front panel with a large, full-color, LCD display or external touchscreen monitor.
The new all-digital design makes it possible to package this 90 kVA of power in a small 28U height cabinet. No other competing system even comes close to the power density and efficiency of the AFX Series. The 3900AFX is well suited for development and testing of both AC and DC grid connected EV fast chargers that are ever increasing in power levels to reduce charging times.
“This new model, offering both AC and DC power modes, expands the AFX Series into applications with very high power requirements. In particular, high power AC and DC Electric Vehicle chargers require extensive compliance testing during development as well as production testing at ever increasing power levels,” said Eric Lord, National Sales Manager for Pacific Power Source. “The compact and cost-effective 3900AFX will meet current and future power needs for our customers. And with standard support for LAN, SCPI command syntax, IVI instrument drivers and LXI compliance, it allows easy integration into both new and existing test applications.”
